Educational & Examination Requirements.
To be licensed to practice acupuncture, a person must:
1. Be certified in acupuncture by a national
certification agency accredited by the National
Organization of Competency Assurance and approved by the
joint-secretary; (NCCAOM) and
2.Successfully complete a nationally recognized clean
needle technique course approved by the joint-secretary (CCAOM).
Licensed acupuncturists not having one year of clinical experience must establish a collaborating relationship for a period of one year with an active licensed acupuncturist who has five years of clinical experience.
Ear Acupuncture
Individuals who do not otherwise possess the
credentials required for the practice of acupuncture
prescribed by this chapter or the regulations promulgated
under this chapter may practice auricular (ear)
detoxification acupuncture, five ear point procedure, for
the sole purpose of the treatment of chemical dependency
if they meet the following conditions:
1. Provide documentation to the joint-secretary of
successful completion of a nationally recognized
training program in auricular (ear) detoxification
acupuncture for the treatment of chemical dependency;
and
2. Provide documentation to the joint-secretary of
completion of a nationally recognized clean needle
technique course approved by the joint-secretary.
Such treatment may only take place in a city, county, state, federal, or private chemical dependency program, approved by the joint-secretary, under the direct supervision of a licensed acupuncturist or physician acupuncturist.
